Party wall agreement cost: party wall agreement cost uk figures, how much does a party wall agreement cost, how much is a party wall agreement, and the party wall award cost behind it
There is no fee for a party wall agreement where the adjoining owner simply consents in writing. The cost appears when they do not, because the Act then requires surveyors, and the surveyors produce an award. So the honest answer to what an agreement costs is that it depends entirely on the neighbour, which is why the notice itself is worth serving carefully.
For context: 360 contractors hold an HSE asbestos licence covering England, Scotland and Wales.

How party wall agreement cost works
- Serve the notice properly and early. A notice served with the drawings, an explanation and enough time is far more likely to be consented to than one that arrives as a legal document with a deadline. Consent costs nothing and is the cheapest outcome available.
- Count the adjoining owners. Each adjoining owner can dissent separately, and each dissent brings its own appointment. A mid terrace with owners on both sides and a leaseholder above is three potential dissents rather than one.
- Ask for an agreed surveyor first. One surveyor acting for both owners produces one award and one fee. Offering it up front, and paying for it, is the most effective way of keeping the total down.
- Expect the schedule of condition to be in the fee. The photographic record of the neighbour's property before work starts is part of what protects you afterwards. Confirm it is included rather than treating it as an extra to cut.
- Budget for the works changing. A design change after an award has been served can need an addendum award, which is more surveyor time. Fix the design before serving where you can.

Common questions
- How much is a party wall agreement if my neighbour consents?
- Nothing beyond preparing and serving the notice, which you can do yourself using the government guidance or pay a surveyor a modest fee to draft.
- Can I refuse to pay my neighbour's surveyor?
- The award decides the fees, and in most cases the building owner carrying out the works pays the reasonable fees of both surveyors. Unreasonable fees can be challenged through the award and, ultimately, on appeal.
- Is the cost different for a loft conversion?
- The number of notices is what changes, not the price of paper. A loft conversion that cuts into the party wall and a basement that excavates near a neighbour's foundations both engage the Act, and the second usually involves more surveyor time.
