Every contractor on this site is an entry on the Health and Safety Executive's own asbestos licence register: the disclosable list HSE's Asbestos Licensing Unit supplies to CONIAC, its construction industry advisory committee, reproduced as published. Entries are unclaimed public-register records; the licence type shown is exactly the one the register names, and a licence is a permission to do licensable asbestos work, never an endorsement by this site. One licence covers England, Scotland and Wales, so the county here is where the holder is registered and not a limit on where it may work.

How to check a licence yourself

  1. Take the licence number from the listing and check it against HSE's own disclosable list of licence holders, linked at the foot of every page. That list is the register this site copied, and HSE's Asbestos Licensing Unit is the authority.
  2. Read the expiry date. A licence is granted for a fixed period, and a licence that expires before your work finishes is not a licence for your work.
  3. Check which of the three licence types the firm holds. A standard licence, a scaffolding licence and a maintenance licence are different permissions, and a holder of one is not a holder of another.
  4. Ask for the public liability insurance certificate and read its expiry date. A number on a van is not a certificate.
